I According
to information received from Oxfam, the river Chenab was flowing at high
flood levels of 430,000 cusics at Khanki Barrage. After flowing
downstream, the water levels decreased and the Trimmu Barrage received
waters flowing at 266,000 cusics. Damages were caused to the low lying
areas in particular to the crops. Fortunately no lives were lost and
people remained in their homes. The Health Dept at Muzaffargarh intends to
launch vaccination campaign after the flood to prevent the break out of
water borne diseases etc.

Alert ! 11th September 2006 |
After a
break of 15 days, continuous rains have been lashing districts of lower
Sindh since the 7th of September. The already inundated areas of Badin,
Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar districts have been the worst hit.
Within 18 hrs of continuous downpour, 7 people were reported killed due to
electrocution and collapsing of homes. The City Government of Hyderabad,
Sanghar and Mirpurkhas have declared an emergency situation and Army has
been called upon to help the people in Latifabad taluka of Hyderabad

"The federal
government has issued a fresh warning to provincial irrigation authorities
about a ‘very high flood’ that passed Head Marala in Punjab to hit
Guddu barrage in six to eight days and higher than expected flows in
Chenab river as result of heavy rains in India.

The
Sindh Chief Minister declared Mirpurkhas, Hussain Bux Mari and Sindhri
Talukas of the Mirpurkhas district calamity-hit areas on Wednesday. The
chief minister has directed the Irrigation Department to immediately
desilt and repair the LBOD drains. According to information received by
Oxfam partners in the area, the breaches in Taluka Hussain Bux Mari and
Taluka Kot Gulam Mohammed that are reported to be 160 ft and 105 ft wide
respectively have still not been filled. 2 more breaches have been
reported in the LBOD at Samaro and Nabisar, which are 120 ft and 90 ft
wide respectively.

According to Mr.Ibrar (DPO-Urban, NRSP Mardan) waters in the Kalpani
Nalla rose to dangerously high levels and most of Mardan city and its
surrounding areas were inundated. Mardan city has over 500 households
that have been affected by the flooding.

of floods as "river flows have started to rise at an unusual pace,
